“The recent attacks by Republican leaders and their ideological fellow-travelers on the effort to reform the health-care system have been so misleading, so disingenuous, that they could only spring from a cynical effort to gain partisan political advantage. By poisoning the political well, they’ve given up any pretense of being the loyal opposition. They’ve become political terrorists, willing to say or do anything to prevent the country from reaching a consensus on one of its most serious domestic problems.” — Steven Pearlstein, business columnist for the Washington Post, today, Aug. 7, 2009.
Pass it on…
I don’t think that we, as Americans, have ever been so far down the wrong path before in our history. I know you will be hearing many pleas to contact the White House, or contact Congress. And you should – it is really our duty, as citizens, to make our voices heard. The reason we are where we are today is because lobbyists KNOW this principle.
So, because many of you want to help, but don’t know how, here are some links.
E-mail your congressman/woman with information from this site. This site also provides fax number information for those wanting to fax.
To phone a Senator or Congressman, call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and the operator will connect you to the desired office. The operator can find your correct Congressman from your zip code if you aren’t sure. It is more effective to talk to the Legislative Assistant, or “L.A.” in Capitol Hill slang, about your issue or concern than to leave your opinion with the receptionist: just ask to speak to “the L.A. who deals with (your subject)”
The White House Comments Desk can be reached at 202-456-1111. Fax: 202-456-2461
You can let your anger at the current situations become whining and sniveling with commiserate friends, or you can turn that anger into action and become a voice for true change. The HOPE and CHANGE is with us, not the government!!!
I’m just saying…
