As I sit here posting this, it is 2:45 Sunday morning. I’ve been to bed, and up again, and am about to hit the bed one more time so I’ll be in a frame of mind for morning worship. Just wanted to post a quick note on my Saturday because, although not exciting, it was still a blessing. Thank you, God, for the day!
Today Barry and I wanted to get “Phase I” of the table project finished. Our goal was to take a 2 foot section out of our 8′ table. With only 2 kids left in the house, it just felt like we had too much table and not enough dining room. Because of the table’s shape, the most efficient way was to cut the section out of the middle. Since it’s a trundle table, this meant having to also shorten the trundle support underneath. First glitch? I bought the wrong size circular saw blade. Who knew 3/4″ in circumference could make such a difference? Now we’re looking at a trip to Lowes to correct the situation. Now, I’m always up for a trip to Lowes (or Menards, or Home Depot…) but we live 25 miles away from the nearest one.
So, hubby and I hop in the Mazda and “zoom, zoom, zoom” into Omaha. Well, in an effort to make a full trip, we also made a stop at Starbucks. Oh, yes, Barry knows the way to my heart!! Back home we headed with our correct sized blade and a happy glow from banana nut bread and our favorite hot lattes.
Once home, the real fun began. I had marked the table with marker and had masked it off so the wood wouldn’t splinter. Well, several cuts later, we had the 24″ section removed and the parallel leg support cut. After some more trial and error, and two trips to Wahoo’s finest Bomgaar’s Farm Supply, we had rejoined our (now) 6′ table. I have to say, at one point we almost gave up on it. There were a few frustrating moments. But Barry and I have recently learned (see previous post) that you do not give up on the things you really want to accomplish, so we stuck it out – to successful completion.
The wood filler is dry. I’ll get it sanded smooth and will get the table painted. It’s going to look great. As a matter of fact, the entire dining room is getting a freshening up in the next week or so. Some great new color and a new chair rail will really spiff the place up. I’ll be sure to post pictures.
The BIG news is our fourteen-year-old is no more. Yes, she’s gone on to FIFTEEN! Saturday was her birthday. We didn’t really do anything exciting. Her present was a trip to Kansas City to see “The Academy Is…”, and that was a few weekends ago, so the “day” was sedate. Can’t believe our baby is soon going to be driving and wearing makeup. I still remember the day we had her…. like it was yesterday.
So, here’s to a beautiful day. I am learning that my best days are those spent with family doing what may seem mundane to most. On those days, I can enjoy family and contemplate the wonders of the God I gladly serve.
Speaking of God…. He is glorious, gracious and merciful. He has poured more grace and mercy over me than I could EVER deserve…. and I didn’t deserve ANY! To that end, I am going to turn in so I will be at my best to (continue to) praise and worship Him.
