That’s the only word that describes what we just watched! The New York Giants just won the Super Bowl! I’m not kidding. And it was BEAUTIFUL!! Really, I’ll watch for video to post, but you just won’t believe it when you see it! Yep, it’s back to back Manning in the Super Bowl…… okay, not the same Manning but still!
Again, NYG upsets the Pats in under one minute of play. They even celebrated twice because the clock was out, then they reset to 1 second. NFL rules state a play must be made – and the field was already awash with reporters, fans, players, coaches…… speaking of coaches, Coach Belichick had gone to center field, and headed to the tunnel. The last play went off without the Patriots Head Coach on the field!
Congratulations NYG! Congratulations Eli!!
Final score: 17 – 14 New York Giants!
Well, it’s half-time at the Super Bowl. We just finished rocking with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Dude still sounds good and he still has toothpicks for legs!!
We’ve been watching the game – rooting for the Giants, although I’m not “invested” as a fan in either team. Eli Manning is why I’m going Giants. I loves me some Manning boys! Right now, however, the Patriots are winning 7 to 3.
More importantly – have you been watching the commercials? Okay, there have been some really good ones, but Crysta and I are still chuckling about the Dorito commercial with the giant mouse busting through the wall and pummeling the guy trying to trap him with cheesy Doritos! Too funny! Love the zipper down the mouse’s back! And how can you NOT love a Diet Pepsi commercial that has Justin Timberlake being “sucked up” with each sip of Diet Pepsi? In the end, he gets bonked with a big screen TV! After the Super Bowl, the commercials will all be at myspace.com/superbowlads I think it will be worth visiting.
The family is having some good fun and family time together. That is what makes this a SUPER Bowl to me. Well, half-time is over and the kickoff commences. I’m off of here for now.
After waiting over a month, I am sad to report that The Ohio State University forgot to show up in New Orleans for the BCS Championship Game. The team bus must have missed the turn off to the Superdome, because neither the defensive, nor the Offensive team was there.
I am sad beyond belief. Can this really happen two years in a row?! Well, apparently it can!
Fortunately it’s only football, but it was still a sad, sad, sad evening here at my house……..
With thanks to rivals.com, here are the Bowl lineups for your viewing pleasure! They are in date order which, of course, saves the best for last!

ALL TIMES EASTERN
Click on the collage to the left to get a full idea of what we awoke to this morning here in Eastern Nebraska. The final picture (lower right) is after the thaw…. the branch that was surrounding the Mazda this morning had finally thawed and returned to its initial position. It was cold and windy this morning, but warmed enough for everything to thaw. Of course it is going to drop to 24 degrees tonight, so tomorrow may be a bit of a challenge for church attendance. We live about 45 minutes away from Omaha Bible Church, which is our home.
The University of Tennessee lost the SEC Championship Game today to LSU with a final score of 21-14. UT played a good game, but LSU played a better one. It was that simple. I were saddened by the loss, but as I stated in an earlier post, it’s all good!
I am hunkered down for some more amazing football with chili (the recipe my dad perfected before passing away in 1983), braunschwager and crackers, and nachos. I think I’m “all in” for the evening. I’m gonna curl up on the couch to watch the Missouri/Oklahoma game. All in all, this is a good Saturday.
Tomorrow brings Sunday, and the opportunity to gather with fellow believers and corporately worship our Lord and Savior. Nothing is any better than that. Although I worship every day, there is just something about gathering together with like-minded believers and lifting our praise in one voice.
May you have a blessed weekend.
This morning I was running my football “I thinks” passed hubby to see if I have it right. So, here’s what I “think” I know about this weekend’s football!! (Yes, this and $4.68 will get you a grande latte at Starbucks!)
Tennessee (GO VOLS!) meets up with LSU in “Hotlanta” for the SEC Championship bragging rights. Barry says the winner (which we, of course, KNOW will be UT!) will get a better Bowl Game also for the win. Cool, cool. It seems anymore that there are enough Bowls to go around.
Mizzou meets up with Oklahoma this weekend. Now while Mizzou did me proud with their win last week, as a fan of The Ohio State University, this week they need to go down! Oklahoma did defeat Missouri earlier in their only loss of the season, so the potential for a loss is there. I’ve been informed that, even ranked number 1 on the polls, Mizzou is the underdog going into this game. However, if The Ohio State University ends up playing Mizzou, it would be a very good game.
West Virginia takes on Pittsburgh this weekend. It would be nice to see Pittsburgh win – they are the alma mater of my dearest friend, Alexis. It would also ensure that the Scarlet and Grey would advance in the polls! Ohio State really only need one of the two teams to lose for a championship seat, but if both the number 1 and number 2 teams fell this weekend, well I have to say I’d be okay with that. West Virginia’s only loss this season was to South Florida. South Florida’s season was not stellar by any means…. I mean, they LOST to Cincinnati! Pittsburgh’s season has been ABYSMAL, with a 4-7 record. They beat Cincinnati, but they lost to darn near everyone else!! So West Virginia and The Ohio State University would also be a great game to watch.
Of course, it is only football. No matter what the outcome, I’ll be okay with it! This weekend is going to be a ‘fun-filled, football watching kind of weekend’. BUT…… as in all things, it will not overcome or overwhelm our praise, worship, thankfulness to, OR glorification of our Lord and Savior!
Jesus is my Superhero. Once, He died for me.
Looking forward to the weekend,
This weekend was a great weekend in football. We are still in watch mode to see where The Ohio State University will shake out in the conference, Tennessee is going forward and Mizzou beat number 2 ranked Kansas….. which can only help our Scarlet and Grey!
The Tennessee game was exciting – although nerve-wracking. I love an overtime game – in college football the rules of OT make it the most exciting AFTER the second overtime. With the third OT, it becomes mandatory for the teams to try a two-point conversion when scoring a touch down. There is nothing to get you off your seat quite like a conversion – exciting stuff! The other big “excitement” was when UT had a personal foul called in OT – after the ref had explained there were NO penalties in OT when an obvious face-mask was called on Kentucky! Um-mm – I may not be the most knowledgeable about football, but I’m pretty sure intentional face-masking is a personal foul too?! But Barry and I were both all like “IN YOUR FACE!!” when Tennessee came up with the first down as if those extra yards didn’t matter a bit!! Yes, we do get a ‘tad bit’ emotional about our college football around here!
“In other sports related news…….” – it became official – Bill Callahan has been axed as Nebraska’s Head Coach. I guess the humbling interview after their last loss, with Bill saying how much he had enjoyed Nebraska and did not regret being here, made more sense after hearing TO’s (interim A.D. Tom Osbourne) comments. Seems Coach Callahan had been notified a month ago that a losing season meant losing his job. Defensive Coordinator Cosgrove needs to go too. You can’t win a ballgame with no defense – and Nebraska’s defense has been sliding downhill for the past four years. Yes, Offense has it’s share of mishaps too, but a good defense would not allow high scoring games to happen. This is only the second time in thirty-nine years Nebraska has had a losing season, with no hope of a Bowl….. and both of those years were under the leadership of Bill Callahan. This news was second only to A.D. Pedersen being let go by the University a few months ago! Can’t wait to see what happens here in Husker Territory! Let’s get through this time of recruiting and go from there.
So, tomorrow the polls will be out and we’ll see what’s up with OSU. They could definitely come out smelling better than just “Rose”s!!
I am not a “die-hard” fan of many football teams. I root for The Ohio State University, The University of Tennessee, and (::blushing red::) The University of Nebraska. Of all these teams, Ohio State is closest to my heart. I’m a Buckeye by birth, and my husband is a big fan of the scarlet and grey! That in mind, you can see why I would have to root for Arkansas today in the Arkansas vs LSU game.
I don’t know much about Arkansas’ team. I haven’t watch a single game of theirs this season. I actually know more about LSU, since Bo Pellini is their defensive co-ordinator. What I did know is that unranked Arkansas was playing the number one team in the Big 10 Conference and I needed LSU to lose. They lost in triple overtime by a score of 50 to 48. It would have been a great game either way, it was that good – however, it was an even better game because of Arkansas’ win.
Tomorrow Kansas takes on Missouri. These teams are the number two and three teams coming into the weekend. Only Kansas remains undefeated. So, tomorrow is a win-win for OSU fans. No matter which team wins, the other team will be lowered in the rankings. Coupled with the fact that LSU is now officially off the table, this will be a wonderful weekend for OSU fans!
I can remember years ago – while living in Plano, Texas – hearing the oft stated question, “Who in the heck is Texas Tech?”
Well, Texas Tech is the newest wrench in the BCS championship standings. They just beat Oklahoma by one touchdown. Now, because of my devout loyality to Ohio State, I wanted Texas Tech to win. I needed them to win. I was just short of praying for them to win. God is apparently an Ohio State fan also because, even without my prayer, Tech won.
On the sad side, Oklahoma should have had an opportunity for OT. They made a touchdown with about 3:30 left in the game – HOWEVER – it was ruled an incomplete pass. And that ruling was upheld in review. But anyone watching the film (over and over) with the announcers could see that the ruling was wrong. It was definitely a touchdown. So, that touchdown 30 seconds prior to the end of the game should have brought them into overtime. Should have, could have, but didn’t.
In the end, Tech did what I needed them to do. For that, I say, “Thank You!!!” I just know that Lubbock is hopping right now! YEEHAW!!!!
Well, Ohio State beat Michigan with a score of 14 to 3. Can I just say that OSU is one classy team. They were in scoring position – 1st and goal – and they still went on their knee to end the play. Seems 14 points was enough for the boys; they didn’t need to humiliate anyone or run up the score like so many of today’s teams do.
So, this makes them Big Ten Champs and secures them a seat in the Rose Bowl. Now I don’t pretend to understand all of this, but I hear (thanks to hubby, Barry, for his patient explanation – which I could not repeat to you…..) they could actually go to the BCS Championship game. It all depends on what happens in some of the other playoffs going on.
So, HURRAY for the SCARLETT and GREY!!!
Now, back to fixing sash windows and painting dining room woodwork!! Ah, the joys of owning an older home!
Blessings to you all,
