This little cutie-pie is Olivia, aka Livy. She is our eight-month-old granddaughter. This past Saturday we got to babysit while her folks went out for the evening. It was our first time to have opportunity to have Livy all to ourselves – and we were excited for it!
Livy’s mom had told me that the baby has “a bad habit of being up until 1 or 2 am”. I spared Sara the whole “you’re the parent…” lecture. (I’ll save that for later when she’s pulling her hair out over something Livy’s doing that “the mom” needs to step in and take care of!) I did, however, know that Livy being up until all hours was NOT going to be an option here at grandma’s. My house, my rules!
So, we prepared for our time with the granddaughter. I made sure I had Stage 1 Rice Cereal in the house, jammies to change Livy into, and fun toys to wear her out with. And that’s exactly what the teenage daughter and I did! We played on the floor with Livy – had her crawling around chasing a battery operated ball, putting shaped blocks into the appropriate shaped holes, rattling noisy rattles, banging on drums, playing with the dogs, and looking at bright colors. And, at around 8:30, I did something she had never experienced before – I filled her tummy with nice, warm, filling cereal! It is amazing what 1 TBSP of rice cereal can do for an eight-month-old!
By 9:00 we had one tired girl on our hands. Tired, but persistent. Like all little ones, she didn’t want to miss anything. But, as you can see by the above picture, it only took a bit of coaxing to help Livy drop off to sleep. She woke once, briefly, when she rolled off the pillows I had put her on on the floor, but we got her to drop right back off. At 9:50, when Daddy called to say they were on their way back, I told him that she was dressed in pjs and asleep. He couldn’t believe it! When they arrived at the house at around 10:30, there Livy laid – sound asleep.
It was nice to spend time with the grand baby. We have a granddaughter, Kaitlyn, in Tennessee we don’t see at all – and our Tennessee daughter, Amanda, is expecting another in May. It was good to know that, after being a part of raising six kids, I still “got it”! We are looking forward to our next chance to entertain Livy! And, rumor has it, we may get to see Kaitlyn in the next few weeks too!!!
I love being a grandma!
