That’s me! American and proud of it. I am of German, English, Irish, and Scottish decent, but I’m still just plain old American. No hyphens, no hoopla. If you want to know from where I decend, just ask me and I’ll tell you.
Today, large groups of people are going to “demand” that they be allowed to stay in this country under amnesty. Now these are not visitors to our country – they are criminals. I know, I know – it’s not a “pretty” word, criminal. However, that is what those who have entered this country without registering with America’s INS are…. and that is the law. Now, some seem to think that they aren’t criminals unless they are “criminalized”. The truth is, however, that when you commit a crime – the breaking of a law – you are a criminal. That’s the short and ugly bottom line of it.
Here’s what Theodore Roosevelt had to say about immigration in 1907. The man was ahead of his time, that’s for sure. This should still hold true in America today. It absolutely holds true in other countries, including Mexico – a country which has very strict immigration laws.
“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American … There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag … We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language … and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.” Theodore Roosevelt 1907
Those flying their Mexico flags today, spouting demands and calling Americans racists and bigots because we want to control our borders will only hurt themselves. Middle American will set their hearts in stone against those who want the benefits without the cost – it’s always been that way and it always will. You want my support, behave like an American and obey the laws.
Just my two cents worth for the day.
